What is a CSA?

Community Supported Agriculture is a connection between a nearby farmer and the people who eat the food that the farmer produces. Robyn Van En (the founder of the CSA model) summed it up as food producers + food consumers + annual commitment to one another = CSA and untold possibilities.

In basic terms, a CSA consists of a community of individuals who pledge support to a farm operation so that the farmland becomes a community farm, with the grower and consumers providing mutual support and sharing the risks and benefits of food production. Typically, members, or shareholders of the farm pledge in advance to cover the anticipated costs of the farm operation. In return, they receive shares in the farm bounty throughout the growing season, as well as satisfaction gained from reconnecting to the land and participating directly in food production. Members also share in the risks of farming, including poor harvests due to unfavorable weather or pests. In addition, shareholders benefit from locally grown, sustainably produced fresh produce free from pesticides and herbicides.

News for the 2010 Season:
The 2010 season will again be an 18 week season. We believe that a CSA share is like a lifetime -- starts off small and compact in the beginning, gradually grows from youth to maturity, and slowly fades at the end of its season, but not before the harvest festival season of celebration. There are always many surprises along the seasonal journey. The 2010 season will run from June 12th through October 9th.

Full Share: $525.00
Half Share: $262.50

Paid in full by June 12, 2010 (10% discount):
Full Share: $472.50
Half Share: $236.25

Join a full share friend and both shares paid in full by June 12, 2010:

Additionally, if you pick up at The Farm, regularly, you may decrease your share by 5% from the share tier total.

To reserve your membership, we ask for $100.00 deposit. However, in order to accommodate all persons wishing to participate, The Farm on St. Mathias will accommodate all shareholders with a payment schedule. Please contact The Farm for individual and confidential consultation. You may reserve your subscription for as little as $25.00. We have done considerable research on pricing and feel that the price structure and value is comparable than other CSAs in our general area.
